Austin High graduate Laine Hicks is a member of the women's lacrosse team at North Carolina Wesleyan College in Rocky Mount, N.C. Hicks is listed as a freshman midfielder for the Battling Bishops. The new program at North Carolina Wesleyan wrapped up a tough season, going 0-13 while playing in the USA South Athletic Conference. Hicks played in 10 of the team's 13 games. She was fourth on the team with 22 groundballs.
• Austin High graduate Catherine Wagner is a member of the women's golf team at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Wagner is a sophomore for the Blugolds. She's coming off of an excellent freshman season in which she was named the Division III freshman of the year. Wagner is having another outstanding spring season. Over the weekend, she helped the Blugolds finish third out of 20 teams at the 2011 Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Fling at Ironwood Golf Course in Normal, Ill. The Blugolds had 320 strokes to tie DePauw University, which is ranked No. 2 in the nation among Division III teams. North Central College won the meet with 315 strokes, while Williams Woods University was second at 319. Wagner had a strong tournament, placing 10th overall with a score of 79. The Blugolds are now ranked No. 4 in the nation among Division III schools. They're scheduled to return to action this weekend in Minnesota at the Carleton College Spring Invitational. If weather permits, that tournament will be played Friday and Saturday in Northfield.
• Austin High graduate Kristen Schulstad is a member of the women's golf team at the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn. Schulstad is a junior for the Blazers. She has received an honor this season as Schulstad was elected to be the women's golf representative for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee at St. Ben's. On the course, Schulstad and the Blazers finished third over the weekend at the weather-shortened St. Thomas University Invitational in Becker, Minn., at Pebble Creek Golf Course. The Blazers had a team score of 351. Schulstad tied for 21st place overall with a score of 93. The Blazers are scheduled to be back in action this weekend at the Carleton College Spring Invitational in Northfield.
• Southland graduate Brian Voigt is a member of the baseball team at Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. Voigt is listed as a junior infielder and pitcher for the Vikings. Augustana is coming off of a rough weekend as it lost three of four games to Winona State University. In Sunday's first game — a 5-3 loss — Voigt entered the game as a pinch hitter and had one at-bat. Voigt was the starting pitcher, but did not factor in the decision, which was an 11-9 loss for the Vikings. Voigt tossed 3 1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits. With the weekend losses, the Vikings dropped to 21-13 overall. They had won six of their past seven games entering the weekend series against Winona State (22-8). For the season, Voigt has started 14 times in the field and entered 19 games. He's hitting a solid .340 with 13 runs scored, six doubles, nine RBIs and two stolen bases. On the mound, Voigt is 1-1 with a 3.00 earned-run average. He's tossed 21 innings, allowing seven earned runs on 20 hits, while striking out 16 and walking nine. The Vikings return to action tonight in a doubleheader at Minnesota State University, Mankato. They host St. Cloud State on Friday and Saturday. Is your kid playing college athletics?
